Movie Blather and Randomness

I’m lacking focus this week, which is why I’ve decided to do a fairly random post about movies today.  Here are five movie-related things for your reading and viewing pleasure.

1. Hit and Run trailer

Dax Shepard and his fiancee Kristen Bell introduce their new movie (out in August) in this video. The movie was written by Shepard (as well as co-directed by him) and features Bradley Cooper, Tom Arnold, and Kristen Chenoweth.  It looks…well, it looks really awful, actually.  There’s a bunch of supremely unfunny scenes in the trailer, and there’s at least one joke about being raped in prison by a black guy that is completely offensive and totally uncomfortable.  I like both Shepard and Bell, so this kind of bums me out.  Also, best guess?  This movie will tank.

2. Won’t Back Down Trailer

Here’s the first trailer for Won’t Back Down, which stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis as moms who start a charter school when the public schools fail them and their kids.  This is an issue near and dear to my heart, and it’s definitely a movie I’ll be seeing, despite the fact that the director is also responsible for the Vanessa Hudgens disasterpiece Beastly.

3.Sequels Galore

There’s going to be a Sin City 2 after all: Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will be directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller.  It’s scheduled to be released October 4, 2013, which means by the time it actually arrives, literally no one will care about it (maybe that’s just me, though?).  Both Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba are confirmed to reprise their roles, because, well, why not?  (The Film Stage)

Oh, and there’s going to be a sequel to the Planet of the Apes prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes (you saw this coming, right?)  Writer Scott Z. Burns (Contagion) has been hired to pen the script. (THR)

10 Things I Hate About You is getting a sort-of sequel. Directed by Gil Junger, who also did the first movie, it’ll be called 10 Things I Hate About Life and will star Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger). That sound you hear?  Is the sound of my adolescence DYING. (Variety)

4. The Great Gatsby Trailer

Have you guys seen this trailer yet?  It’s…certainly something.  It’s from Baz Luhrmann, who brought us Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet, so you know it’s going to be visually remarkable (I mean, look at the trailer).  But…I can’t decide if it looks like it’s going to be awesome or a total hot mess.  The trailer has awakened a desire in me to reread the book, which is not something I thought I’d ever do, to be honest.

5. Paste Magazine has a roundup of the 50 best movies on Netflix Instant

It’s an extremely useful list, and they plan on updating it as titles change.

There are some great titles on there.  For the record, I recommend: The Constant Gardener, Brokeback Mountain, Drive (if you like super violent stuff), Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Gosford Park.

(I plan on watching Trainspotting and Rabbit Hole soon.  Both are SUPER uplifting, so that’ll be a fun time.)

Hope you all are having a great weekend!

I hadn’t seen the trailer for Won’t Back Down so I’m glad you linked to it. It looks good! Anything with Viola Davis in it and I’m inclined to see it.

I want Gatsby to great, I truly do! I love the book and I love Leo but you’re right, the potential for hot mess is very strong. Still, this is one I want to see in theaters just because of the grandeur of Luhrman.
