Movie Blather and Randomness

I kind of like posting about movies on Saturday, so today I bring you more movie news and randomness.  True?  True.

1. The Bourne Legacy’s got another trailer.

Not going to lie: the only reason I’ll see the Bourne Legacy is because my boyfriend* Jeremy Renner stars in it.  I love me some Renner, y’all.  The man is charming as all get-out, sings (gooooooooooooogle it), and is actually a pretty great actor.  I’ve been watching The Unusuals on Netflix, and it’s all because of this charismatic man.

To be fair, the movie boasts a pretty impressive cast all around.  Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, and David Straithairn are all in the movie, too.

2. The CBGB movie added to its cast…

…and decided that a smart move is Malin Ackerman as Debbie Harry.  Just shoot me in the face now, okay?  Ugh.  Ugh.  Ugh. (Variety)

(The movie also has Alan Rickman and Rupert Grint, which makes me feel marginally better about the whole thing.)

Part of me kind of wonders how this movie will do, anyway, though.  Do people care about how CBGB’s came to be?  Will people flock to see a movie like this, or will we end up with another disasterpiece like Studio 54? (Here’s hoping.)

3. Les Miserables’ trailer went live

Mostly it’s Anne Hathaway looking sad and singing “I Dreamed a Dream,” but you also get glimpses of Amanda Seyfried, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman (rocking a huge beard) and that creeper Eddie Redmayne (shudder).  I’m not a huge fan of musicals in general and have never been a Les Miserables fan, but I’ll probably see this because it’s going to be a movie-event.  I can just tell.

4. Book-to-movie news

  • Robopocalypse, based on the eponymous title, will hit theaters in April of 2014.  I know you were dying for that news.
  • You know how Tom Cruise is starring in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series?  They’ve changed the title from One Shot to Jack Reacher, and it’ll be out on December 21st.  Just in time for Christmas.  Ugh.  (THR)
  • Stephen King’s IT will be adapted into two films by the guy who did Jane Eyre (THR)

5. Perks of Being a Wallflower Trailer

This is perhaps one of the most eagerly-anticipated movies of the year.  The trailer looks…pretty much like I’d expect it to look.  I remember liking this book very much when I was young, but I’m scared to reread it because I have a feeling it won’t hold up.  Emma Watson does her very best manic-pixie-dream-girl in the trailer.  I like some of the other people in the movie, and I’m super into the Imagine Dragons song they use near the end of the trailer.

You guys plan on seeing it?

What did I miss this week in terms of movie news?

  1. When I read PERKS I didn’t really get the MPDG vibe from Sam at all; I’m sort of pissed that how they’re making her out to be. But Chbosky directed the movie so I’ll guess I’ll wait and see. Patrick’s lines were great, though. “Make us solve crimes!”
