Lists & Procrastination: 5 Things I’m into for the Moment

Gentle Readers, welcome!  It’s time for another installment of Things I’m Currently Obsessed With.  Previous installments can be found hereherehere, hereherehere,  here,  herehere,  here, here, here, here, herehere, here, here, and here.

1. Grimes – “Oblivion”

I don’t know what it is about this video that I find so compelling, I just know that it’s one I’ve revisited several times since discovering it.  I like Grimes’s music in general, and there’s something so odd about this video.  All of it feels very authentic– from the moment at the beginning where the girl flips up Grimes’s hood to the moment where Grimes waves a fan through across the camera’s line while she’s singing.  It’s not linear, and it doesn’t really make any sense, but neither does the song, really.  That might be why I like it so much.  Also, I kind of want pink bangs.

2. The fall premiere of Switched at Birth

I love this show to an embarrassing level, and I’m so glad it’s back.  As much as it hurts to watch, I like what the show is doing with Bay and Emmett’s characters.  It’s weird to watch the new episodes after just completing  a re-watch of the first season because everyone looks just a little bit…different.  Daphne’s hair is redder (though she’s still doing that annoying face thing she does when she’s worried or uncomfortable or whatever), Bay looks thinner (which is a bummer, man), etc. etc.  I still think the Angelo subplot is the show’s weakest link, but that might just be me.  Are you watching? Are you as obsessive as I am?

3. David Guetta – “Titanium” (ft. Sia)

The video itself is whatever (I mean, yeah, that’s one of the kids from Super 8), but for some reason, I’m super into the song these days.  I’m sure I’ve exhausted my neighbors from overplaying the song while I’m getting ready to go out, but oh well.  Call it my song of the late summer, because I’m officially obsessed.

4. Under the Banner of Heaven by John Krakauer

I’m unsure of whether or not I’ll ever actually review this book, but I do want to talk about it on the blog since it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately.  The book focuses on the rise of Fundamentalist Mormons in the United States, and it’s a fascinating, extremely accessible read.  I’m riveted by what I’m reading, and that’s a rarity with non-fiction.

5. The onset of Halloween season

Okay, so maybe it’s a little early to be this excited about Halloween, but ever since my roommate and I decided to throw a Halloween party, she and I have been in full party-planning mode.  Both of us are huge fans of Halloween in general, and she loves to craft and decorate, so we’re going way over-the-top with our plans for this party.  I can’t wait for October (I realize we’re not there yet) and Halloween and candy and costumes and just general awesomeness.

What are you into these days?
